Dividing a job into threads

Dividing your job can be difficult if you are not entirely sure what you want to get in return. But if you do, just answer these few simple questions and you'll have the job done in no time.

Before you start, the best practice is to look at jobs other's have posted and learn from how they are described; what thread data is supplied; what are the submission instructions; and how much are they paying.

Then Answer these questions:

1) How can I divide my job between numerous people? Is it a repetitive task that I can just duplicate X times? Or is it a job that each person will get a unique piece of?

2) What will I receive from the Spoolsmith (the worker) once the job is done? Is it a file? Is it just text? An image? Or will s/he supply proof that he went somewhere and did the task? What would be that proof?

3) How will I know that the Spoolsmith did the job as I requested? What are my criteria for success?

4) How much am I willing to pay for each thread (part of the job)?

5) How many threads do I need to complete the job?

Jobspooler will divide text data or PDF files into threads, each thread containing a portion of that data. You should think about how you are going to divide the data by thinking about what one person needs to complete the task. PDF files are divided by page, so each page will be a thread. But text data is divided by line and will be divided into the number of threads you have requested. So, for example, if you have a list of 100 names and want to place 5 in each thread, you would list the names, each on a new line, and request 20 threads. If you wanted 25 names per thread, you would request 4 threads.

Or you can choose to keep the data whole and the entire file or text field will be placed into each thread. In that case, you don't really need to use the Text or PDF tabs at all and can place all of your data in the description field or upload a file to be placed in each thread.

In addition, you can add additional materials that won't be divided: files, links, instructions.

That's the start. Answer these questions and provide the answers in your job posting form.

general question

Does jobspooler support jobs that actually provide tangible goods? I have a friend that sometimes needs people to do production for jewelry-- should I tell her about jobspooler?

tangible goods

JobSpooler is not currently set up to handle traditional manufacturing production. It would currently be too difficult to verify what was produced, when it was shipped, the quality, etc. If you have a specific thought on how to monitor certain kinds of manufacturing, we'd be interested in hearing your thoughts.
